Paul Walsh
Biography
Paul is
a Lieutenant with the City of New Britain Fire
Department, and a third generation firefighter with 16
years on the job. He has always had a interest in
painting since childhood and after high school
attended Central Connecticut State University for
graphic arts. In the early 80s, while visiting a
firehouse in Harlem (Engine 35 Ladder 14), he saw fire
fighting artwork painted by (retired) Firefighter John
Goss. Walsh was inspired to also paint firefighters in
action.
To make his paintings as realistic
as possible he would eventually convince fellow
firefighters to pose in action scenes. He would also
take photos of fire scenes and use the photos as
reference. Most of his work is oil on canvas ranging
in size from 16"x 20" to 30"x 40"
.
Since his start, he has gone to
press with 12 original paintings which printed
over 16,000 lithographs and sold out of 3 limited
editions. He has had many firefighter scenes published
in New York City Fire Department’s Fire Fighting
magazine, WNYF. Walsh's work is collected
nationally and internationally. He has also had the
honor of winning awards in judged exhibits. His
greatest honor to date, was when he was asked to
design Connecticut’s Fallen Firefighter’s
Memorial.
Paul Walsh resides in Kensington, CT. with his wife
and 4 children.
